Are you planning to restock your store or reprint any out of stock prints?
Not currently, although if there is enough demand for any specific items, I might consider additional print runs. I don’t use a fulfillment service or on-demand print service, so everything I’ve ever printed or sold was printed locally using high quality materials and processes from craft printers in limited editions.
Are you available for portfolio reviews?
Yes, I’m more than happy to look at and evaluate work, although I can’t guarantee it in a timely manner.
Do you have any secret information related to Disney IP?
No, and I wouldn’t tell you even if I did :)
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists in the games/entertainment fields?
You don't need to be hired professionally or to have "permission" to start making the kind of art or game assets (or games, comics, animations etc…) you want to make. You can start making it now and look for jobs and companies that need that kind of work when you're ready to search for jobs. Hopefully you'll have made things that prove you can do the work you like doing, and find alignment between your interests and the commercial needs.
Is it better to have a broad range of skills, or is it better to focus on one specific area of the industry and focus on showcasing mastery of those skills?
It depends on the company, role, and your personal interests. For me, I'm constantly curious about learning new things, so I enjoy roles that let me do a variety of things - working in the indie space has made that possible for me, but even when I worked at larger studios like Disney Interactive, at various phases in the production I enjoyed helping with texturing/normal map creation and UI work. That said, my impression is that most job listings tend to be for specialized roles. Ultimately you have to strike a balance between following your own motivation and what the market is looking for.
What should I exclude from my portfolio. Are there any red flags that employers do not want to see in their employees?
I would suggest excluding anything that looks obviously like student work - still lifes, portrait studies, life drawing etc..
What gear do you use for plein-air painting?
I use a custom pochade box that attaches to a tripod. There are tutorials online, like this that have information on how to build your own.
Are you available for commissions?
Not currently, but I have a commission request form on this site I will activate if I ever open them back up.
